Pre - installation Checks
- Verify Components: Before installation, carefully check that all components of the mechanical seal are complete and in good condition. Refer to the assembly drawing to ensure that there are no missing or damaged parts. Examine the sealing surfaces of the friction pairs, sealing rings, etc. for any signs of damage, such as scratches or chips. Also, check the surfaces of the shaft or shaft sleeve, as well as the flanges that come into contact with packing and O - rings for any damage.
- Check Installation Dimensions: Ensure that the relevant dimensions of the equipment where the mechanical seal is installed meet the requirements. For example, the shaft run - out should be no greater than 0.06 mm at the location of the dynamic ring sealing ring, and the axial run - out of the shaft should not exceed ±0.5 mm. The concentricity tolerance of the gland (static ring seat) with respect to the shaft centerline is 0.05 mm, and the perpendicularity tolerance of the plane in contact with the gasket to the centerline is 0.03 - 0.05 mm.
Installation Process
- Avoid Installation Deviation: When tightening the gland, it should be done after the coupling is aligned. The bolts should be tightened evenly to prevent the gland end face from being skewed. Use a feeler gauge to check each point, and the error should not be greater than 0.05 mm. Check the fit clearance (i.e., concentricity) between the gland and the shaft or shaft sleeve outer diameter. It should be uniform all around, and the allowable error for each point checked with a feeler gauge is no greater than 0.01 mm.
- Proper Spring Compression: The spring compression should be carried out according to the specified value, and there should be no excessive or insufficient compression. The allowable error is 2.00 mm. Excessive compression will increase the face pressure and accelerate the wear of the sealing face, while insufficient compression will result in insufficient pressure to achieve a sealing effect.
- Ensure Free Movement of the Dynamic Ring: After installing the dynamic ring, when it is pressed against the spring, it should be able to rebound automatically.
- Installation of Sealing Rings: When installing the dynamic ring sealing ring on the shaft sleeve end and the static ring sealing ring on the gland (or housing) end, ensure that the ends are chamfered and smoothed. During the installation process, be careful not to damage the sealing rings and avoid contact with sharp objects.
Post - installation Checks
- Inspect Alignment and Clearance: After installation, re - check the alignment of the coupling and the clearance between the mechanical seal and the shaft or housing. Ensure that all values are within the specified range.
- Check for Leakage: Conduct a static pressure test on the mechanical seal before starting the equipment. Check if there is any leakage at the mechanical seal. If there is significant leakage, identify the cause and take measures to eliminate it. If the problem persists, disassemble and inspect the mechanical seal, and then reinstall it.
